History
A credit union is a member-owned, not-for-profit cooperative financial institution formed to permit those in the field of membership specified in its charter to pool their savings, lend funds to one another, and own the organization where they save, borrow, and obtain related financial services. Members are united by a common bond and democratically operate the credit union under state or federal regulation.
The unique principle of "people helping people" is the foundation of the credit union movement, along with those of being not-for-profit, democratically controlled and run by member-owners. Each member has an equal say in how the credit union is run, and because there are no stockholders, earnings are returned to members in the form of higher savings rates an lower loan rates.
We here at the Toledo Police Federal Credit Union are proud to be a part of the credit union movement since we were chartered by the NCUA on March 18, 1940. Since that time we have had the opportunity to provide our members with personalized services to meet their financial needs.
